Reindeer Treat Cone

Day 9 of The Fit Fridge’s Twelve Days of Healthy Holidays… Little ones awaiting the arrival of Rudolph and friends will enjoy helping to make a batch of “Sleigh Ride Snack Mix” for teachers and classmates.  This crunchy trail mix makes a yummy gift or party treat, but unlike traditional trail mixes, it’s low in fat and sodium, free of common allergens and has a festive “Reindeer Treat Holder” to make it extra special.

Supplies

Template (Download template PDF below.)

Medium and dark brown cardstock paper

Scrap of white cardstock

Brown rick rack

Wiggle eyes (10 mm)

Medium red pom pom

Wire garland (about 9-10”)

Red ribbon (about 6”)

Craft glue

1/8” hole punch

Stapler

Scissors

Pens

Print the template, and cut out all pieces.  Trace the treat holder onto medium brown paper, and cut it out.  Roll it into a cone shape, keeping the top edges even.  Staple the top edges (1 staple on each side near the wide opening or top of the cone) to secure.  Put a thin line of glue along the side flaps where the paper overlaps, and press them down to keep them flat.

Punch a hole in each side of the cone’s top for the hanger.  Push one end of the garland through each hole, pulling the garland to make a handle.  Bend the ends of the wire flat inside cone to keep them in place.

Put a thin line of glue along the top outside edge of the cone, and glue the rick rack on, covering the staples and holes for the hanger.

Glue the eyes in the center of the cone and the pom pom onto the pointed tip for a nose.

Trace and cut two antlers out of dark brown paper.  Glue them onto the top of the cone.

Cut out the tag.  Color or ink over the words “Wishing you a Christmas bright with joy!” it as desired, and glue it onto white cardstock.  Trim excess cardstock around the tag.   Punch out the top hole of tag, and tie onto cone’s handle.

Place a snack mix bag inside cone, and share it with a friend.
